Locking Up Thompson "a top priority" for Packers

In an article recently published by ESPN.com's Rob Demovsky, Packers President Mark Murphy interestingly told reporters that re-signing General Manager Ted Thompson is "a top priority."

"It's a top priority," Murphy said earlier today. "I think Ted's been instrumental obviously in the run we've had. So that is a real priority."

Currently, Thompson's contract is set to expire after the 2016 draft, meaning that getting him on an extension soon is a must if the Pack are serious about keeping him, as the 61 year-old has stressed multiple times this offseason that he doesn't want to retire anytime soon. 

Nelson Confident He'll Get New Contract

Despite the recent news that the team is yet to make any offers to Randall Cobb, Packers Wide Receiver Jordy Nelson is confident he'll get a new deal soon, ESPN.com's Rob Demovsky reports. 

Nelson, who dominated for the Pack in last year's NFC North title campaign, recently told Demosky that "everyone knows deals get done closer to training camp," implying that the club's lack of activity lately doesn't concern him.

In his six season NFL career, spent entirely in Green Bay, Nelson has been pretty impressive, catching 302 passes (36 TD) for a solid total of 4,590 yards. 

Packers, Cobb Still Not Close To Contract Extention

Considering that he's been an offensive force ever since his NFL debut in 2011, Packers WR Randall Cobb deserves a contract extension. 

Cobb, who will be a free agent after the 2014 season, will make just over $1 million this year, a salary simply too low to make him wanna stay.

Still, according to FoxSports.com, the youngster and the team are nowhere near a new deal, something possibly worthy of a panic.

Last year, Cobb did play in just six games due to a knee injury, but in the end, this news is still a little worrisome. In recent years, #18 has been Mr. Reliable for Green Bay, so the thought of him leaving is definitely not comforting. 

Report: Decision on Kuhn's future could come this week

According to Packers News, the decision on Free Agent FB John Kuhn's future could come this week. Kuhn, who has played each of the last 7 seasons in Green Bay, is reportedly receiving interest from multiple teams, so yea, this news does not necessarily mean that he's definitely going to wear Green and Gold this fall.

Still, I'd say that that possibility is probably the most likely. I mean, Kuhn loves the Packers and, not to mention, everything's cheaper in Northern Wisconsin, so it's not like a pay cut this year would be the end of the world for this guy.

7 teams have apparently contacted Andrew Quarless

7 NFL Teams, whose names have not yet been released, have apparently contacted Packers TE Andrew Quarless, ESPN.com's Rob Demovsky reports. If the Packers don't get a deal done with Quarless by 3:00 pm CT this afternoon, he'll become an unrestricted free agent, so yea, this news is kinda important. 

Now really, I could care less whether or not the Packers get Quarless back, but still, I must say I'm surprised that #81's getting as much attention as he is. I mean, in his career he's never exactly been a super star, so just what exactly is making all these teams want him so much?

Shields wants to test the FA market

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Packers CB Sam Shields wants to test the free agent market this offseason. In 2013, Shields was solid for the Pack, intercepting 4 passes while collecting a career high 61 tackles in just 14 games. 

Recently, it has been reported by multiple sources that Shields and Green Bay were negotiating a new deal, although I think it's obvious now that those talks didn't go too well. I mean, Shields leaving the team obviously isn't guaranteed, but you'd think that he'd be saying something else here had he actually been given an offer that he liked. 

Packers, Kuhn have "mutual interest"

The Packers and now Free Agent FB John Kuhn are (somewhat surprisingly) showing "mutual interest" in each other, Kuhn's agent, Kevin Gold, recently told NFLTradeRumors.com. Last season, Kuhn made a pretty high base salary of $1.8 million, so if a deal between the two does get done it's extremely likely that it'll be for a lot less cash. 

And if #30 will take a deal for less pay, then I gotta say, I'm all for re-signing him. I mean, nobody currently available is better than him, so just who the hell else would the Packers start this season? 

Rumor: Packers Safety Burnett responsible for Tony Gonzalez's retirement

As you probably already know, Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez, a definite future Hall-of-Famer, retired earlier this offseason for what many assume to just be aging. But apparently, according to him, that's not actually the case. In his view, he's leaving the league because his teammates, during last season's Falcons-Packers game at Lambeau, didn't stand up for him while he was taunted by Green Bay Safety Morgan Burnett, who has since denied the rumors. 

So yea, what we're learning here is this: whether this story is true or not, Tony Gonzalez is an emotional wimp. This is pro football, not a high school clique, so if he really can't stand just being taunted then I guess it is in fact his time to leave.
